Super Mario RPG Nostalgia!!!

Remember that game that came out somewhere after the mid-1990's that sold out at Funcoland and was always missing at Blockbuster when you went to rent it?

That game was most likely Super Mario RPG or SMRPG for short! Whether or not you were about 9 or 10 back than is different though. What most people agree on is that SMRPG was a hit and one of the best Mario games that has ever came out, at least until the Nintendo Gamecube was released...

The Secret Boss, Culex

The Toadstools that were hypnotized by Davey Jones, the Pirate Boss from the bottom of the ocean...

So Smithy and the gang take over Bowsers Keep

...and Mario gets along with Bowser!!!

The Protagonists of  SMRPG fan art!

One of the cult-fan bases that started was for Geno fans. Geno's character was actually more important than one may think, at least contrary to the first time you played as a kid (if the first time that you played SMRPG was as a child). Geno was special because he knew who Smithy was before the story even began and was the only good guy that came from the same Super-Universe as Smithy... to help Mario and his friends!

SMRPG good guys and bad guys
Another new character to SMRPG was Mallow who believed that he was a frog. Though he looked like a cloud and was plagued with self-doubt over the whole appearance-doesn't-match-my-soul thing, until Mario with Mallow's help, discovered his home was in the clouds... Even after Mallow found out he was from a land in the sky, he never gave up on his identity as a frog...

The SMRPG world map.
No matter how many times I've played SMRPG, the SMRPG world always seems to take more or a lot less time. Sometimes I think it's going to take forever and it goes by really fast or I'm going to breeze through it and it takes longer than I thought haha :D

Super Mario RPG and the Seven Stars

Even if they release five more FF or KH games, I'll still probably be always loyal to the SMRPG title. Without SMRPG, Square and Enix wouldn't have learned enough to continue making good games in their other long runners like FF or KH.

RPG trivia: Materials and their meanings

RPG trivia

Materials and their meanings

Wood - Usually the first tool of the game. Types of games use wood at first to compare with the advanced material tools that the higher level knights and warriors use. Kind of as if we all started off with a stick or a bokken.

Bronze/Iron - Common tools use these elements and alloy. They won't fare against a strong bad guy or the final boss.

Silver/myrithril - That's what's in treasure chest no. 8888. The myrithril in pleated sheets that almost always has to be brought to the next town, so a new tool can be forged. They're usually found in the deepest forest or a dead end of a dungeon. Always call a party member before setting out to find myrithril, it is a difficult impossible journey.

Mystery Accessories - Same as myrithril but these can be equipped like charms, in good fashion. Think about it, fashion can also be charming and beat the bosses? Well in the alluring world of the RPG... maybe your world in .addition.

JRPG: Caption Caution

Technically speaking, the Pokemon card game was the most popular RPG card game and trading card game. Each type of card had its own HP, MP, and strategic moves. The play pitted one person's Pokemon against the playable traits of the other person's hand. With dice and special pieces, there were the additions of ailments or powers. It was one of the best RPG and there were mall tournaments all across Japan and North America where enthusiasts played their custom deck against others. A true RPG is one that can be played slower, like cards. Maybe one that can be played fast or real time, reminiscent of Kingdom Hearts or SMRPG. Those games didn't allow reaction time errors on the level of milliseconds, maybe more mechanically in SMRPG.

2nd Prime Time: D2D

D2D: Dream 2 Dream

This begins the newest O.Rev. series, 2nd Prime Time. This is meant to highlight various otaku and pop culture memes that have "it", referring to the essence of being hip, fresh, and cool as passionate followers of our nerdy niche of pop culture, i.e. anime, manga, video games, and other pop culture otherwise created and conceived in Japan, that small yet way advanced Asian country. There is no format, the information is intended solely for the readers.

Style + Fashion- ~~~ Colors~~~
To gain a real style that sets you apart in the world of popular culture, one way to achieve this without actually discovering new articles of clothing and accessories is to change your colors. They can be changed to match your unique ideals. Use the link right over this text to find some color meanings for your own new style. Choose any clothes, the ones you like only only on color for a while and you'll notice a change. If it doesn't work, it'll buy you enough time to get more clothes and colors!

Ego + Power ~~~RPG~~~
In RPG and shounen anime, all characters have a class and a power. We know that, we here at O.Rev. have taken that journey for what seems to be years. We've seen conventions and we've been near other anime fans in their unique late adolescence or adulthood... We're convinced in the blaring controversy of the emerging current events, that normal, regular people are endowed with special traits. This is to save new anime manga video gamers the stress of wondering why not. Don't. There is a wikihow for everything, try learning Yusuke's spirit blast or Goku's Kamehameha before bed. You will get those powers in your dreams, trust me it works. It beats not having good dreams...

Accessories~~~ Journal/Smartphone notes
Use your smartphone for notes. If you take down enough notes, you'll have a log of notes from various dates that you can check. Once you have a long list, it helps. Just don't lose your phone or you'll lose your long range track of thoughts. And your phone.

ORE. RPGHero (Otaku Reviewer Extraordinaire)

ORE. stands for Otaku Reviewer Extraordinaire

Frequently in old school RPG games there were some pretty cool abbrev. which classified towns, character, character classes, attacks, magic spells and other story elements.

For example, some of the towns would bear the abbrev. such as St. Christos Lake Town. Such abbrev. would be cool, they would be reminiscent of decades, centuries, and maybe millenia past.

RPG games contained worlds of past, present, and future perfectly blended and mixed. It's no wonder that many RPG fans learn and keep their sense of turn-based mysticism, much the same as IRL eggheads, mystics, and other creatures of nether-celestial worlds.

Maybe just maybe, our new author is the Celestial Pierrot... Either way, she's our new blogger here at the Otaku Reviewers! She's cool, keep looking here to find out the otaku things that she alone likes ;)

Either way, RPGhero signing out.

Next time you see a St. relic in the real world, think about Final Fantasy or something...

Darn Good Video Games, Part 1

Hiya it's RPGHero bringing you my newest post series, "Darn Good Video Games"

In this series, I'll be posting about really really good video games. And like my name implies, they'll be mostly RPGs. There might be a general multi-player game mixed in sometimes though.

Today's Darn Good Video Game is:
Persona 4

Persona is a video game series that started out as a straightforward ghost/monster/demon killing RPG. And over the installments, they have added more and more story and interactive capabilities. The latest installment being Persona 4.

The plot is intense!!
Well you're a kid that just moved to a rural town in Japan. All of a sudden a horrifying murder occurred.
As you're getting used to your new life you meet friends. They peer pressure you into trying an urban legend where you watch tv on a rainy night at midnight. Before you know it (because you and friends think there's a clue to the murders) you're going on adventures and beating monsters in a parallel universe behind the TV.

There's also alot to do in real life though. You can hang out with people and build relationships...

This game is loosely based on a two things. Mythology and Jungian psychology. How is a game based on psychology??? Well throughout the game you are collecting and using "Persona" to fight monsters. The persona, being a facade used to overcome life's difficulties... both in the game and in Jung's theory. And even in the game they will make many references to Jung. However the personas are actually mythological creatures, which is a creative (AND POSSIBLY FAKE) addition to Jung's theory.

The music is pretty good, the battle music and opening music is unique, it has vocals!!!

The graphics are alright... There are no Hi-def cutscenes but for a PS2 game the constant gameplay graphics are pretty good.

If you like RPG's, being the most popular guy in school, fighting ghosts, solving murders, oracles, and urban legends... Then head down to the local video game store and pick this game up!!!

I give it a 4/5 ^^

RPG Party of the Week!

In this segment, I'm gonna depend on my skills as an RPGHero!

We'll be looking at a different RPG party every week. When you think of the word party you think about a celebration or rabble rousing with food or drinks. In an RPG the word party probably follows dictionary definition two or three which is "a band of people associating together for some purpose or activity". In other words a group of people who decided to travel together because they'll accomplish their goals easier together.

It's one of the main reasons I play RPGs, because a party is also a group of friends. And nothing says friendship better than taking down a super powerful monster, together. ^^

Todays' party of the week comes from "Atelier Iris 3: Grand Phantasm" for Playstation 2. It is not as well known as Final Fantasy but it's a great RPG. The characters are 2D which lends to a classic RPG feel. The story is just like all the Atelier Iris games, protect the world from magic/alchemy in the hands of evil. The music is the best part, the music has that feel of a great SNES game like Megaman X. Sometimes you forget you're playing a recent game and you'll drift off into an era where the music riffs made you feel like a futuristic mage. And an even better part is playing this when all those losers out there are playing Black Ops. Alas people should come over to the light side and play RPGs.

~The Party~
Edge Vanhite
Age: 19
Edge Vanhite lost his parents at a young age. He lives at a workshop with his partner Iris Fortner. (What I wouldn't give to live with a chick just because) Edge is a quiet person but when he does talk he seems frank and unfriendly. (I personally call him the comeback and startup king, because he can diss people with almost no effort) But Edge hides that he's actually a kind person. (It's not that hard to hide. Even if you're frank you can still be a good person. He's definitely not hurting people, at least physically) Edge is skilled at swordfighting and only uses magic in combination with his sword attacks.
 Iris Fortner
Age: 16
Iris is Edge's partner in the work-for-hire business known as the Raiders Guild. They work together doing errands and fighting monsters for the townsfolk. Iris is skilled at alchemy and can synthesize items. Edge always makes fun of her skills but in reality she is the most skilled in the town. She optimistic with a straightforward personality. (The name Iris is a recurring name in the Atelier Iris series, like the name Sid in the Final Fantasy series)
Nell Ellis
Age: 15
Nell Ellis used to work as a Raider with her older sister until they got in an argument which left her working alone. Nell wants to restore her families wealth and status which was taken away. Edge and Iris took her in so she could have support while working as a Raider. It's actually Edge and Iris' fault that she was abandoned because they were competing with Nell and her sister Yula. She's an energetic, happy-go-lucky girl.

Check out the gameplay!

Notice how Vic Mignogna voiced the main character... I tell you he's gonna dominate the anime/video game world one day...

Final Fantasy XIII... Congrats to Square-Enix, However....

Congratulations Square-Enix on the release of Final Fantasy XIII.
You've came a long way and have had many collaborations in the past!
You know you have done your job Square-Enix

Because you have liberated RPG players!

You may be wondering? Liberatred RPG players?

Well I would say liberated and also saddened...

Well upon the epic release of FFXIII random people, people who you never thought touched an RPG before are posting on facebook about the greatness of the game and people who you thought were gymrats with a penchance for laying his next fine female are rushing out to your local gamestop and picking up FFXIII. They are even picking up the epic game before some of our most seasoned RPG vangaurds.

Even so many of us seasoned RPG vangaurds won't come out and share the air with these wannabes and closet entities that have suprised us with their love of the epic game series.

We will pick up FFXIII. However we will have already played Persona, Breath of Fire, Dragon Warrior, Chrono Cross, Wild Arms series, Arc The Lad, numerous online mmorpgs, all of the previous final fantasies, Crisis Core and all of the spinoffs, Grandia, Suikoden, etc, etc, etc.

This release and our eventual winning of FFXIII is for US!!

Welcome to
The Otaku Reviewers

This blog, "The Otaku Reviewers", was started in February of 2010 on this very same platform, Blogger. At first, it was a venture into the informational and informal world of comics, anime, video games, and Japanese culture. In other words, just a random blog.

Over time, the founder of the blog credited with the pseudonym "RPGhero" was joined by two fellow bloggers and friends with the names "Chansu" and "Deretsun". Together the three bloggers looked up interesting Japanese culture facts, recommended new anime, talked about their own "otaku" interests, and traveled across the United States to various anime conventions.

There have been off periods when the blog ceased production of content and there have been times when there would be dozens of blog posts per week. The schedule varies depending on the lives of the people behind the alias'. However the pattern is that we always get back into the game with even newer information about Japanese culture, anime, video games, and other nerdy hobbies.

The motto of our blog is:
"A cure for your apathy and an inspiration for your dreams. ...Applies to Otaku, anime fans, J-pop junkies, and the like"

The purpose is to blog about cool stuff related solely to anime and otaku stuff. There's no other reason we're doing this.

If you like our blog, please support us in however small a way that you would like. We appreciate our readers!

Check it out on Amazon!

Read it for free on Wattpad too!!
