Have you ever heard the phrase, "Men are from Mars and women are from Venus". If you like any part of that phrase, you should watch Vandread. In Vandread men and women live on two different planets in space and hate each other! It all begins when three peculiar guys get caught by a pirate ship, from Mujer the planet of women. Oh and there's giant mechs like in Gundam! And then it all gets better from there!
The male planet of Taraq values manly qualities Like toughness, valor, honor, honesty, endurance, and strength.
The main character, Hibiki, pictured above becomes the hero of the ship, just like in any other giant mech show. However he can only unleash his full power when his ship is "combined" with a female ship and a girl is sitting on his lap! Now isn't that ecchi!
The female planet, Mujer, is more in tune with feminine qualities like harmony and resilience. And don't forget good old female scorn.
This show has a lot of hidden sexual tension within it. It's a great show to watch after a long day at work or school. I have to admit that the battles are anti-climactic and boring. But the plot is reasonable and will keep you watching, if only to see how much men get to know the women and vice versa. This show is on netflix!
I recommend it, but you'll have to see for yourself.
This is a review of a new computer game called: Cherry Tree High Comedy Club!
Let me begin with my impressions of the Comedy Club. To me this game seemed almost like the Persona games, without any monster fighting. It's the most complete life simulation game there probably is out there, without sacrificing that Japanime style that we all love.
In the beginning, the main character Miley talks to her friend and rival Octavia. She talks about her determination to bring back a defunct Comedy Club that used to be at her school. This is the opening of the game and like most visual novels, the opening is very long. Don't let this deter you from playing the game lol.
Just like anime virtual life simulators, skills increase after you do enough of certain activities. Basically you can become any kind of person you want to be by practicing your favorite things.
That's not all, you can talk to a wide variety of people and get to know them better. There's even a slight chance that you can talk successfully about love :3
There are different places to go, the world is your oyster! At least the city!
This game is a great game to play if you're feeling bored. The main character is a girl, so it's probably going to appeal more to girls than to boys. But that shouldn't let boys get scared enough not to try it out. But for girls of all ages, I highly recommend this game.
Otaku, a term that originated in Japan. At first the term was used to refer to someone who had an abnormally high obsession with anime, manga, Japanese idol stars, or jpop. The term has been through it's share of controversy, just like any other controversial term for people. Now otaku is a great thing to be, especially if you're into Japanese the great arts like anime and manga. Also, there are some things that set otaku apart from normal fandom and even normal people.
I'd like to talk about these things, in light of NYAF's last year at comiccon and also because I feel they are important for readers of our blog.
I've realized a few things about what it means to be an Otaku or someone who is very passionate about anime or manga.
1. Otaku don't follow conventional rules. If you're looking for otaku to be happy with the rules of society, keep looking. Many otaku won't vote this year, because both candidates are boring among other reasons. Many otaku work regular jobs but it doesn't really matter, because we know that the best part of the day revolves around anime or J-music. We don't follow rules for the sake of the system but for the sake of ourselves and the anime we love so much!
2. Otaku can't be depended upon to fit stereotypes. Oftentimes you'll find otaku guys dressed as anime girls or girls dressed as guys. We'll watch anime about masochists who just seem to fit in with sadists, lolicons, and gays (Such as the anime MM!). We watch anime that makes light of racism and classism by punching a one-percenter in the face (Such as the anime One Piece). We can't be depended upon to satisfy society's will because like an anime character would say, "Break through it!".
3. Otaku and American comics don't mix. NY Comiccon had merged with NY Anime Festival a few years back. Now they're getting rid of NYAF! You can't merge with anime and throw it away! You can't throw away otaku! If there's anything of note, it's that another anime convention will take it's place or NY will forever be at a loss toward Otaku. Sure superman is great but all otaku know Goku would kick his butt!

Anime Expo is the largest anime convention in the United States and is located in Los Angeles, California. They are still calculating how many people attended Anime Expo 2012 but in 2011, there were 47,000 attendees. And the Los Angeles Convention Center is equipped to handle all of them. The convention center there is the largest convention center we have ever seen. It is larger than the Baltimore Convention Center where Otakon is. However, is AX a better convention than Otakon? That question cannot be answered. It's like wondering if Goku can beat Superman in a fight, everyone will choose a side but nobody will ever know. But anime fans think they know Goku will win. I guess it's more like saying is one kind of apple better than another kind of apple. Or if dogs are better than cats... Well you get the idea...
Where to begin?
There's no better place than the "Lounge 21". Since Anime Expo has been going for 21 years, they opened a lounge within the convention center for people over 21 to listen to music and drink. It was a pretty cool place, though I think most of the people there were way over 21. Also, the drinks were very expensive. They served mixed drinks, all of which used Tentacle Grape (that link is not for kids) as the mixer. And I have to say Tentacle Grape mixes well with alcohol. I got Tentacle Graped ^.0
The biggest events to go to at Anime Expo were the concerts. The performers this year were LiSa and Yuki Kajiura and Fiction Junction. LiSa's anime claims to fame are Angel Beats and Fate Zero. Fiction Junction created a lot of anime music but most notably music for .Hack and Fate Zero. There are no youtube videos though of these openings probably due to tough copyrights.

Needless to say the concerts were awesome. It was like an experience! Was it better than the Chemistry concert at Otakon?? Who knows??? I sure love Chemistry though.
The dealer's room at Anime Expo was the biggest dealer's room I've ever seen also. Here are some pictures of it:
Let's continue shall we! There were all sorts of different vendors at Anime Expo. What I liked most was that there was cheap manga there! Usually manga is around $6-8 a volume. But at Anime Expo some manga was selling for $3 with the average cost of a manga being $5 dollars. The dealer's room is always the best part of any convention and the Anime Expo dealer's room is by far the best dealer's room out of all American conventions.
One negative aspect of Anime Expo is it's location. Los Angeles is a beautiful city in some places but there are many drawbacks. The hotels were all far from the convention center, which meant that one would either have to drive or take the convention shuttle to get there. The convention shuttle takes about an hour's wait, if you just missed the last bus which could get pretty bad for going back after the rave around 2am. The only thing worse than the wait for the shuttle is that if you rent a car, parking fees are going to be high and everywhere. We even got a parking ticket! (T.T)
One of the highlights of Anime Expo was the rave. Imagine going to a club, and when you got there there were otaku and anime fans everywhere. Well that's the rave at Anime Expo. The atmosphere was just like any other dance club, there were professional dancers and a lot of people were getting hot and heavy in the groove. I though, thought the Otakon 2011 rave was better because it was much bigger and just more fun in general. Also, at Anime Expo they sometimes played American pop music, which is a part that I didn't like but some would find cool.

This blog, "The Otaku Reviewers", was started in February of 2010 on this very same platform, Blogger. At first, it was a venture into the informational and informal world of comics, anime, video games, and Japanese culture. In other words, just a random blog.
Over time, the founder of the blog credited with the pseudonym "RPGhero" was joined by two fellow bloggers and friends with the names "Chansu" and "Deretsun". Together the three bloggers looked up interesting Japanese culture facts, recommended new anime, talked about their own "otaku" interests, and traveled across the United States to various anime conventions.
There have been off periods when the blog ceased production of content and there have been times when there would be dozens of blog posts per week. The schedule varies depending on the lives of the people behind the alias'. However the pattern is that we always get back into the game with even newer information about Japanese culture, anime, video games, and other nerdy hobbies.
The motto of our blog is:
"A cure for your apathy and an inspiration for your dreams. ...Applies to Otaku, anime fans, J-pop junkies, and the like"
The purpose is to blog about cool stuff related solely to anime and otaku stuff. There's no other reason we're doing this.
