Otaku Reviewers: RPGhero Rants
Hi all! RPGHero here!
What if tomorrow was your last day on Earth? Does that seem scary? It truly is scary, and it makes me truly fear leaving everything behind. I'd never see another anime, hug another human being, or go on a trip anywhere (let alone to an anime convention or concert).
The things we do make us who we are! If I was never into Japanese anime or Japanese music, I don't think I would be a good person. There are some days where it's harder for me to be good because I feel like nobody else agrees with the way of life I love. There's nothing wrong with them, they just never had the chance to give Japanese anime or music a serious chance, they're the ones who miss out in the end! Japanese culture is very good to me, even though other people think it's corny, I love it even though I'm African-American.

Media Megastore of Times Square Manhattan
Book * Off is a great media megastore around Times Square, NYC.
Not apparent from the outside, the inside is full of previously owned books. Most books here are manga and Japanese language, making it quite the Otaku hangout!
Right when you walk in there's a Toradora dvd mixed in with other stuff like a Bible DVD anthology.
Near or not???
If you want to learn Japanese there are stacks of Japanese language workbooks for sale at low prices here. There's even some for Doraemon fans, as seen at the bottom.
Japanese culture is family oriented!
This Japanese language book sports a cover with a small child embracing his grandpa... Isn't that cute?
On the way to the basement, there are some posters and small art on the walls with Attack on Titan themes. If only, Chansu could read all of these and translate them in his genius English-Japanese otaku knowledge.

Which has the largest number of previously owned manga and Japanese language graphic novels, I have seen in NYC so far.
In addition, there's all kinds of posters and art to look at and choose from on the walls.
There's a lot of other visual books and cool stuff, if you're a fan of other manga and anime...
I was going to buy Hikkatsu, a manga I thought was interesting. This kid punches appliances and hopes that they come back to life, but they always break.
It seemed kind of like a dead-end manga though, even if it wasn't made to be an anime series...

Anime Review: Natsume Yuujinchou
Today I will review:
Natsume Yuujinchou
When you watch an anime there are certain things that we all look for. They are as follows: Character Development, Artistic Appeal, Opening and Ending Originality and Interestingness, and Plot Complexity. These are our FOUR anime judging qualities and by reviewing this way we can avoid spoilers, I think. So let's begin!

Natsume Yuujinchou means Natsume and the Book of Friends. The book of friends was left to Natsume after his grandmother passed, inside it are names of Youkai or Lost Spirits that she has made to be her servant. Like her, Natsume can also see youkai while most normal people cannot. Natsume has been haunted by this and by the youkai that want to take the book of friends by force. However, Natsume made friends with a powerful cat spirit named Madara and nicknamed Nyanko-sensei. Nyanko protects him as he goes on numerous quests to find out more about the world of youkai, his grandmother, the meaning of the book of friends.

Character Development
Natsume yuujinchou is a slice of life anime. Some aspects are shonen especially when Nyanko-sensei fights off the other youkai. The true purpose of the anime is to be a slice of life anime, so the main focus is relationships. Natsume meets many different youkai some of whom are friendly, some need time to warm up, and others are not friendly. Natsume forms connections with ALOT of different youkai over the 39 episodes or so that are out so far. Natsume also makes human friends which is challenging for him because he is always interrupted by youkai...

Artistic Appeal
First of all, Nyanko-sensei is voiced by Kazuhiko Inoue. The voice of Hatake Kakashi in naruto and many other tough guy characters. This anime is a piece of his seiyuu prowess because he plays a witty high pitched cat. And wow Natsume's voice actor Hiroshi Kamiya was Mephisto in Ao no exorcist which is a stretch of the imagination too. The visual art in this anime is also amazing, the style is unique and tries to be realistic in terms of hair colors and faces. The youkai are drawn with a flair of imagination.
Opening and Ending Originality
My favorite opening and ending
The openings and endings of this show are very calming and relaxing. Even the one I posted is calm, for being the most up beat opening of the whole series. Whenever you need to relax just watch these openings and endings...
Plot Complexity
This anime is more of an episodic anime. There's no overarching quest that the characters are facing that continues. In fact this anime takes a break after every 13 episodes, I'm currently hoping for the next season to come out. With each season more characters are introduced and in the last season some bad guys were introduced which is interesting. Each episode is a new story and has a really good plot and substance. Character development always continues in this show. It's a great show to watch when you want to relax or when you want to be intrigued. Some of the supernatural occurances in the show made me think about life. That's why its Slice of Life!Overall: Recommended

It's been a while guys! I haven't ranted in a long time about nothing in particular... So it's time.
It's been snowing for way too long in New York. I'm waiting patiently for Spring and more importantly the Sakura blossoms of Spring. Better known as Sakura Biyori/Sakura Weather.
But this is where I want to go:
Isn't it beautiful, It's Sakura Park in NYC. It's on the west side of Manhattan.
But imagine what that place must look like now man... Like three feet of snow, I hope that little building doesn't break, I'd like to see the Sakura trees from inside it haha.
I've been having alot of fun shoveling, since I quit my trucker job I'm having all the physical activity I miss. So that's my day basically. I get up watch some anime, go outside and shovel, then go to class. And don't forget coming home and watching something like MM!
Yes! I watch MM! Deretsun.
You think I was some shounen loving otaku pretending to be a hero? Well that's correct. But I love watching Sado get beat by his sadistic classmate, and since he's a "hardcore masochist" he's in love but he also likes his crush... I want this guy to choose someone haha. He better not just walk away without confessing his love to one of them...
But yeah that's my day. This rant... isn't like the others you say??

And look we're well past 300 posts, you thought you weren't going to get another... Well until 400, Stay cool and keep going in your Hokage dream or your Pirate King dream. Whichever you like.
Then there's Ichigo, just trying to survive against powerful wierdos. Doesn't even have a dream haha. I had to make fun of Bleach at least once.

A Few Slices of Japan
Here are a few slices of Japan. So even if you're a first time visitor or one who's been checking us out to see if we're credible you'll find an informative and entertaining post right here!
A Japanese reality show travels to Akihabara to check out the Otaku culture there. It's interesting that even in Japan the culture that they have created seems foreign to some constituents of the same nation... Subbed in english.
The person in the Goku cosplay is none other than Patrick W. Galbraith the writer of "The Otaku Encyclopedia: An insider's guide to the subculture of Cool Japan". They are doing a segment on Maid Cafes in Akihabara. Check it out to get a glimpse into how a real Maid Cafe works! Should they have Maid Cafes in America?....
And my third video is from Ken Tanaka. A caucasian man who was raised in Japan, so english is his second language. He disabled embedding so follow the url and check out his vlog on the Tokyo ComicCon!

The Otaku Reviewers
This blog, "The Otaku Reviewers", was started in February of 2010 on this very same platform, Blogger. At first, it was a venture into the informational and informal world of comics, anime, video games, and Japanese culture. In other words, just a random blog.
Over time, the founder of the blog credited with the pseudonym "RPGhero" was joined by two fellow bloggers and friends with the names "Chansu" and "Deretsun". Together the three bloggers looked up interesting Japanese culture facts, recommended new anime, talked about their own "otaku" interests, and traveled across the United States to various anime conventions.
There have been off periods when the blog ceased production of content and there have been times when there would be dozens of blog posts per week. The schedule varies depending on the lives of the people behind the alias'. However the pattern is that we always get back into the game with even newer information about Japanese culture, anime, video games, and other nerdy hobbies.
The motto of our blog is:
"A cure for your apathy and an inspiration for your dreams. ...Applies to Otaku, anime fans, J-pop junkies, and the like"
The purpose is to blog about cool stuff related solely to anime and otaku stuff. There's no other reason we're doing this.
