Japan Block Fair

The Japan Block Fair in NYC was May 22nd 2011
This event was the same day as Japan day. It was located 40th avenue and Park avenue.

The Japan Block Fair had a great turnout of people. Many different types of people were there, all showing support to Japan and the businesses at the fair. Since the fair only used one block of space, all of those people were crammed onto one block of street. Moving around was not easy.

There were many food stands selling cuisines like ramen, udon, edamame balls, rice balls, etc. The food was really good but the prices were higher than we would expect for the small servings of food. But I bought and showed support and loved the food. ^^

There were many opportunities to donate to earthquake relief in Japan by buying buttons, souvenoirs, etc. They did not have much anime related goods which was a letdown. We got there after the performances too but we wouldn't want to be in a much larger crowd during the performance.

Overall, this is a great event. This year had an extra large turnout. Hopefully next year there will be more space or more blocks dedicated to Japan Block Fair NYC. We hope to see you there!

Springtime

Sayonara no Sora by Qwai
"While pursuing the natural way to say farewell, I stretch my hands outward just to find nothing is there"

Reflect on that along with the rest of the lyrics in this video below.
Merry Easter, Sakura biyori, and the Height of Spring!

Vocaloid track of the Whenever I Feel Like It {S2} 6

[Wish I could just sit back and enjoy the Cherry Blossoms like Miku's doing!!]

Hey guys, hope you're enjoying the weather as it begins to warm up! If I were living in Japan, I'd love to see the sakura blossom... instead I can enjoy great Vocaloid music I guess!

Today's theme: complexity!

"Night before the Sakura" can be summed up in one word: beautiful. Well, maybe also "catharsis." The video is truly a minimalist work, but the song is so powerful and touching... if you feel nothing after seeing this, you're obviously a horrible person! Believe it!

"What do you mean!?" is slightly different, yet strangely similar. It's a complex jumble of human experience typecasted, iconified and shaken, not stirred. Miku is as cute as always, portraying our frenzied mortal balance between Human, Joy, Logic, Cold World, and of course You =]. But someone please explain to me what the sheep is!!

Hatsune Miku - What Do You Mean?!

As usual, I'm dying to know which one won! Tell us in the comments!

Chinese New Year

It's almost February 3rd!
The Chinese New Year is almost here!

The chinese zodiac tells the story of the order that animals appeared before The Enlightened Buddha to worship him.

The year approaching on Feb 3rd is the year of the Rabbit. The rabbit was said to have been the fourth animal that appeared before Buddha. Alittle about the Rabbit (who's year I was born in) is that he or she's patient, well-mannered, gentile, shrewd with business, and intellectual among many more traits. It is said the animals personality would be the type of year that would be experienced... more or less...

What does this mean in Japan?
The Japanese celebrate a holiday called Setsubun or Risshun on the same day as the Chinese New year. Setsubun means seasonal division. During Setsubun the celebrants basically do things to purify the house of evil spirits and bring in the spirits and forces of luck. Such thing are included such as scaring evil spirits with masks, throwing soybeans out of the door to drive out evil spirits with them, and eating a soybean for each year of life, with one as good luck. It's both a festival of purification and of celebrating luck in Japan. Usually the man of the house or the male who's birthyear corresponds to the Chinese zodiac animal will do most of the activities, especially throwing the beans and evil out of the house.

What does this mean for you?
According to your sign you may have a really lucky year or you might have to watch your back next year. But really just do both ok, or whatever you normally do ^^

Welcome to
The Otaku Reviewers

This blog, "The Otaku Reviewers", was started in February of 2010 on this very same platform, Blogger. At first, it was a venture into the informational and informal world of comics, anime, video games, and Japanese culture. In other words, just a random blog.

Over time, the founder of the blog credited with the pseudonym "RPGhero" was joined by two fellow bloggers and friends with the names "Chansu" and "Deretsun". Together the three bloggers looked up interesting Japanese culture facts, recommended new anime, talked about their own "otaku" interests, and traveled across the United States to various anime conventions.

There have been off periods when the blog ceased production of content and there have been times when there would be dozens of blog posts per week. The schedule varies depending on the lives of the people behind the alias'. However the pattern is that we always get back into the game with even newer information about Japanese culture, anime, video games, and other nerdy hobbies.

The motto of our blog is:
"A cure for your apathy and an inspiration for your dreams. ...Applies to Otaku, anime fans, J-pop junkies, and the like"

The purpose is to blog about cool stuff related solely to anime and otaku stuff. There's no other reason we're doing this.

If you like our blog, please support us in however small a way that you would like. We appreciate our readers!

Check it out on Amazon!

Read it for free on Wattpad too!!
