2nd Prime Time: Village to the Seas

2nd Prime Time
Village Meets the Seas

Fashion ~
For the beginning of the end, or the grander line. Go formal or mix and match your best outerwear. In this try, use light colored clothing or use the darker side. That's to show or hide your inner darkness or light. Choose carefully...

Trafalgar Law

Kuchiki Byakuya

Ego ~
Take a flashback and summon up your kid self. Think of shows like Naruto and One Piece where even before the first episode, the main characters had exciting young childhood lives that contrast with their hardcore adventure.

Blues ~
Don't fall into the trap of being too shounen, be as sad as you are actually during your days. Cry a little or be downcast in the broadcast, even if the days are sunny and warm. There's no turnaround to better days without the blues right there by your side on the bad days.

Mandala Harmony ~
What comes to mind in anime is FMA brotherhood or Clannad's Dango Daikazoku, right? Your own unity circle is between those two in truth. Put personal things in or even put some people in. You won't have good or bad dreams, without one (^^;)

Pierrot's Bade & Soul Experience Pt. 2 : Escape the Bandits

Back with an update on my in-game adventures! This week, I made it to level seven!

Unfortunately, I'm stuck on a chapter called Pirates and Thieves. I was able to defeat one enemy easily, but when I got to an area deeper into the bandit's hideout, there were at least three enemies like the one I beat near the entrance, plus a super strong one. Since he wasn't the character I was looking for, I didn't stick around to fight and just ran past them. Most enemies in games I've played like this usually stop following after you get too far away from where you encounter them, but I found out they will keep chasing you in this one half the time.

I made it to the area of the hideout where the character I needed to find was. Of course, she wasn't alone, so I went after one of them. As soon as I made a hit, all the enemies from the previous area came at me and killed me within seconds. There was no chance for me to survive at that point, so I just started that area all over from the beginning. I didn't think anything of it and decided to try again, this time taking out the guys I ran past before.

My second try seemed to be going well til I went after the super strong guy. I don't know what he did, but he pretty much took me out with two hits. I thought maybe I was hurt too much from the other guys, but the third try I had most of my life left and the guy still killed me. X__X;;;

My plan for now is to level up a bit so I can take him out the next time I face him and make it to the next area of the hideout. It's taking a bit longer than I hoped since I'm only getting 19 points for each Bloody Jiangshi or Forest Wolf, but I know I'll make it soon. ^.^

Otaku Let's Play! - Yoshi's Island Part 1: That's Why Girls Avoid Shy Guys

Yoshi's Island like you've never heard it before...gy.

Yoshi's Island is one of the most well-known games for the SNES or Super Nintendo Entertainment System from the 1990's. In that game Yoshi carries baby Mario through the entire Yoshi world and brings him back home.

The Otaku Reviewers like to play old school video games, while having fun and maybe a few laughs. So laugh at us, we're a couple of shy guys wondering if the "Shy Guy" bad guys ever get girls. It's a thought experiment that takes place only in Yoshi's Island (lol).

Anime Review: Level E

Most of you are probably saying: "It's about darn time!"
And I'm saying it too. So without further ado, we will start to review anime instead of just recommending anime.

Reviewing is a tough game because, review too much and the good parts of the show are spoiled and review too little and no one knows what the heck your talking about. Reviewing too little can almost be like a Judge in a cooking anime... very vague... "This has so much flavor, and the texture is very rich, but the aroma!..."
They can make it work but we can't...

So I'm going to set up a review system. When you watch an anime there are certain things that we all look for. They are as follows: Character Development, Artistic Appeal, Opening and Ending Originality and Interestingness, and Plot Complexity. These are our FOUR anime judging qualities and by reviewing this way we can avoid spoilers, I think. So let's begin!

LEVEL E

Genre: Adventure, Comedy, Horror, Science fiction
Level E is about the prince of a planet called Dogura who comes to Earth to keep from being bored on his home planet. His name is Ki El Dogura but his nickname given to those who know him is Baka because he likes to play pranks to keep from being bored. Ki El Dogura is a genius and possesses one of the highest intelligences in the Universe. This show is about the various people he "influences" both from Earth and from other planets. This show is also about the prince's three bodyguards who serve as comic relief throughout the show.
The Prince of Dogura is the main character

Character Development
Character development is low in Level E because the series is only 13 episodes long and is broken up into three mini-arcs about different people that the prince influences to pass the time. Some reviewers have said that they would like to see more of one character or another. I think the story would have been better if it was longer so each of the arcs could have more character development.
Yukitka, the baseball jock that many people wanted to see more of in Level E. Was it because he acted a lot like Yusuke Urameshi from Yu Yu Hakusho?

Artistic Appeal
The artistic appeal of this show is good, it could be better to compare with other anime. The style of animation is a bit like a new Yu Yu Hakusho. Some scenes are aesthetic such as the depictions of space from Earth.

Opening and Ending Originality and Interestingness
The opening and ending themes are both interesting. They are not that generic type of anime opening. I think the ending is better than the opening, that's just because I like male J-rock bands better. Check it out for yourself!

Level E Opening
Cold Finger Girl by Chiaki Kuriyama

Level E Ending
Yume Mugen No Kanata by Vivid
Sorry there's no ending theme on youtube...

Plot Complexity
How many times does the plot "get good" before the end of the series basically. Since the show has four mini arcs, each one has a suspenseful twist. This makes me recommend this show. But since it has four mini arcs you don't know much about the characters by the end. The message the show gives off is that aliens are just like us, they're no more good or evil than we are (well people in Japan).

OVERALL: RECOMMENDED

:::Action Time:::

Hey fellow bloggers, I know I haven't posted in a while due to lack of ideas, but I suddenly regained some inspiration so it's time to jump into a review! ^^
__

Have you ever thought about what makes an action anime... a good action anime? Well the reason may differ from person to person but in my opinion it just needs a base storyline and well thought out fights. Fights where they just thrust swords at each other and the storyline seems to repeat itself... *cough*... are not too fun. So in these favorites of mine you'll find tons of well-thought out battles with satisfying story lines.

You must be itching to know what my favorites are... well then... without further ado... onto the review! :)

I now bring to you... my TOP 3 action animes! o.O

Number one: I know you all have probably heard of this one before; one of the most popular animes in the world; one that exceeds all average action expectations that one may have; one that will cure your apathy and inspire your dreams; one that will... (did I say "one" enough?)... forever be the famed anime called One Piece!

This anime has everything--from romance, slice of life, extreme drama, and crazy twists to hilarious moments, randomness-you-just-have-to-accept, well-written fillers (Yes, I said well-written and fillers in the same sentence), as well as epic and explosive action. What more can you ask for? Key Magic? They have some of that as well! =P

So just what is this anime about you ask?
(...wait, you don't? *evil stare* Well...I'm telling you anyway...)

Well, if you can't tell just from looking at this picture, it's about a group of pirates who journey across the sea in search of the greatest treasure--"One Piece"! The main character, Monkey D. Luffy, ate a devils fruit that allows him to stretch like rubber! As he journeys he meets other friends who all aspire to make the best of their lives and achieve their goals. As they sail to the future what will become of them? Will they become the best or fall in defeat? You'll have to watch One Piece to find out =P.

My Personal Experience:

At first when I started watching this anime, it took me a little while to get used to the animation--but once that phase was over I realized just how amazing this anime is. The story line is so well written that even the fillers are good!!! If I didn't look up which episodes were fillers I'd have no idea! Even the moments where you think they can't use that portion of the story effectively blows you away. The structure and planning of the story and how it all comes together + the amazing twists they come up with--and the consistency of that amazement is off the scale for me. I HIGHLY recommend this anime if you're an action and adventure fan =P.

This anime is very similar to my next review: The Law of Ueki.

Like One Piece, it is very well thought out and contains the most unique powers I've ever seen in an anime.

And that's not the only similarity. The main character in this anime, Ueki, has the ability to turn trash into trees. (Wha-?) You heard me. Trash. Into. Trees.

... And although Luffy's rubber ability and Ueki's trash-into-trees ability both don't sound very formidable, they're both extremely strong abilities if you know how to use them.

In this anime Ueki joins a tournament where the winner gets to become God! No--not for selfish reasons. Ueki joins to stop others from total domination. Will his unwavering Justice be able to defeat Evil? You'll have to watch Law of Ueki to find out =P

My Personal Experience:
At first when I started watching this anime, I thought it was pretty stupid. Like many animes, this one didn't put a lot of effort into hooking in the viewer in the beginning, assuming people will watch their whole series for the explanation. That didn't stop me, since I had heard many good things about it I kept watching. Right after where I would've stopped (around episodes 1-3) they introduced the explanation and made everything click and I was so glad I did. This arena-style anime was very refreshing and brought me some nostalgia I'll never forget ^^. It climbed into my top 3 action animes and is overall fantastic and highly recommended for all action lovers =P.

And last but certainly not least is my favorite shoujo action! You heard me right--girls can't kick butt too! =P

The sister anime to Toaru Majutsu no Index: Toaru Kagaku no Railgun! Yay!

This action anime has my favorite animation out of all the ones before mentioned. I honestly think it's the best animated action anime, but I haven't seen them all to earn the right to say that =P.

What is this anime about?

Well, it doesn't really have a main story line--it's more like a settled multi-plot action anime which was the first of its kind I've ever seen. If you want an idea--imagine Lucky Star... with Action...and an ESPer city... and... and... ok fine that was a bad reference--but still! It's a great anime. The characters are really energetic and fun; except for the somewhat humorous small series of perverted girl-girl comments/moments from Kuroko (the girl on the left of this picture).

What makes this anime so great?

The best things I like about this anime are the amazing characters, themes, art, and high action thriller it gives you... like... you know: chasing criminals... stopping bad guys... fighting evil... (*ahem*, what do you mean I'm just saying the same thing in different words??)... you know... the good stuff =P.

"But Deretsun... how can girls kick butt!?"

Wha-? You still don't believe me? Take a look at this next picture of the "Railgun"...

Believe me now? =P

...Thought so.

My Personal Experience:
At first when I started watching this anime I was expecting a main story line like Toaru Majutsu no Index (which I recommend you watch before watching Railgun) so I wasn't too thrilled when I found out it was just "another non-major-plot anime." As I felt forced to watch the rest of it I realized that I was actually enjoying it and then I opened up my eyes without expectations and realized how much I was actually loving it! It was very happy and refreshing to watch and I highly recommend it to people who just want to kick back and watch a nice relaxing action anime. (Kind of an oxy-moron isn't it? But believe me--action can be relaxing too! =P)

Here you go! ^^

So if you're an action fan I recommend all these animes to you! Make sure you watch Index before Railgun though, so you can catch the references.

That's all for today, thanks for reading! ^^

Animazement 2010!!!! Chansu's Review of Day One

Hey guys, chansu here with my first impressions of North Carolina's "Animazement" convention! This was only the preregistration day so there wasn't much to do, but right off the bat I'd like to say I was impressed with the turnout!

RPGHero and Chansu's 4 Day Animazement Journal!
Day 1 - "Pre-con"

So, after a sweaty hot tired 9 hours bus trip in the middle of the night and a little sleep, we were ready to venture into the grand world of Animazement! At first I expected us to be the only people there, mostly because only hardcore people make it to the pre-reg, but I was surprised to see a good amount, nearly 100 people, that showed up. The actual registration line was short and there wasn't much to do, but the excitement was the in the air.

It was a blur! I saw Master Chief, tootsie roll ninja, Maes Hughes (with a photo of little Elicia), Urahara Kisuke, and others in the blink of an eye. Everyone was very talkative, fast moving, and generally high spirited. Nothing like pre-con to get your juices flowing for the main event!

(If it was too fast for you, my excuse for no pictures was that everyone was heading left and right, oh wellz!)

So my group and I walked all around the place looking at different exhibits for a quick second, getting a gist of the convention center. The only panel we sat in for the entire duration was "A Crash Course in Tokusatsu" because I thought it was some kinda food. But silly me, I knew what Tokusatsu was before I even got there! It's, ya know, that thingie with the transforming superheroes....

["Samurai Sentai Shinkenger" Opening Song... yes, it takes a while to get used to this kind of thing...]

Okay to be more specific, Tokusatsu is Kamen Rider and other types of "Japanese Power Ranger" live-action shows that feature flashy transformation (or "HENSHIN!") scenes and baddies that look just like the giant ones in Power rangers. You may be thinking "Hey, I graduated from Power Rangers when I was like, 5, why would I watch any Tokatsu stuff? I love anime, not some live-action rip!" Well, as much as I agree with you dear fellow, Tokusatsu reveals a new dimension of action. I won't go as far as saying that it tops anime and manga, but if you need something new that progresses through a story (albeit cheesy and shallow) fairly quickly, then stuff like Super Sentai is your thing! Trust me!

But don't think you're an otaku if you don't like this stuff. This is but a small piece of what otakudom has to offer....

Well, chansu signing off! Be sure stick around for Day 2's antics!!

Family Ties

Something that comes up alot in Japanese storytelling, namely anime and manga is inheritance. I'm not talking about inheritance of an estate or something like that. This is on the genetic level we're talking about.

What do the following anime characters have in common?
Naruto, Gohan, Gon, The Elric Brothers, Ichigo, Yoshida, etc

They all have a pops (father) that's the best thing since sliced bread.
The prase: "After all, you're his son"
Is a phrase that is repeated many times in the worlds of those characters.

Also, whether or not you realize it that is a key part of Japanese storytelling, just look at the number of anime I could name characters from the top of my head.

Somehow the genes for pure awesomeness are supposed to be passed on from father to offspring.
Usually I read textbooks and they don't say anything about awesomeness...haha.

But it is interesting to note.

Disclaimer: Don't go into the family business just because of this. Unless that's your interest too.

See Luffy didn't and he turned out fine...

Disclaimer: Luffy has not actually committed any crimes.

Sorry minna, I haven't posted in a hot minute (a few days)

Welcome to
The Otaku Reviewers

This blog, "The Otaku Reviewers", was started in February of 2010 on this very same platform, Blogger. At first, it was a venture into the informational and informal world of comics, anime, video games, and Japanese culture. In other words, just a random blog.

Over time, the founder of the blog credited with the pseudonym "RPGhero" was joined by two fellow bloggers and friends with the names "Chansu" and "Deretsun". Together the three bloggers looked up interesting Japanese culture facts, recommended new anime, talked about their own "otaku" interests, and traveled across the United States to various anime conventions.

There have been off periods when the blog ceased production of content and there have been times when there would be dozens of blog posts per week. The schedule varies depending on the lives of the people behind the alias'. However the pattern is that we always get back into the game with even newer information about Japanese culture, anime, video games, and other nerdy hobbies.

The motto of our blog is:
"A cure for your apathy and an inspiration for your dreams. ...Applies to Otaku, anime fans, J-pop junkies, and the like"

The purpose is to blog about cool stuff related solely to anime and otaku stuff. There's no other reason we're doing this.

If you like our blog, please support us in however small a way that you would like. We appreciate our readers!

Check it out on Amazon!
