Anime Review: Level E

Most of you are probably saying: "It's about darn time!"
And I'm saying it too. So without further ado, we will start to review anime instead of just recommending anime.

Reviewing is a tough game because, review too much and the good parts of the show are spoiled and review too little and no one knows what the heck your talking about. Reviewing too little can almost be like a Judge in a cooking anime... very vague... "This has so much flavor, and the texture is very rich, but the aroma!..."
They can make it work but we can't...

So I'm going to set up a review system. When you watch an anime there are certain things that we all look for. They are as follows: Character Development, Artistic Appeal, Opening and Ending Originality and Interestingness, and Plot Complexity. These are our FOUR anime judging qualities and by reviewing this way we can avoid spoilers, I think. So let's begin!

LEVEL E

Genre: Adventure, Comedy, Horror, Science fiction
Level E is about the prince of a planet called Dogura who comes to Earth to keep from being bored on his home planet. His name is Ki El Dogura but his nickname given to those who know him is Baka because he likes to play pranks to keep from being bored. Ki El Dogura is a genius and possesses one of the highest intelligences in the Universe. This show is about the various people he "influences" both from Earth and from other planets. This show is also about the prince's three bodyguards who serve as comic relief throughout the show.
The Prince of Dogura is the main character

Character Development
Character development is low in Level E because the series is only 13 episodes long and is broken up into three mini-arcs about different people that the prince influences to pass the time. Some reviewers have said that they would like to see more of one character or another. I think the story would have been better if it was longer so each of the arcs could have more character development.
Yukitka, the baseball jock that many people wanted to see more of in Level E. Was it because he acted a lot like Yusuke Urameshi from Yu Yu Hakusho?

Artistic Appeal
The artistic appeal of this show is good, it could be better to compare with other anime. The style of animation is a bit like a new Yu Yu Hakusho. Some scenes are aesthetic such as the depictions of space from Earth.

Opening and Ending Originality and Interestingness
The opening and ending themes are both interesting. They are not that generic type of anime opening. I think the ending is better than the opening, that's just because I like male J-rock bands better. Check it out for yourself!

Level E Opening
Cold Finger Girl by Chiaki Kuriyama

Level E Ending
Yume Mugen No Kanata by Vivid
Sorry there's no ending theme on youtube...

Plot Complexity
How many times does the plot "get good" before the end of the series basically. Since the show has four mini arcs, each one has a suspenseful twist. This makes me recommend this show. But since it has four mini arcs you don't know much about the characters by the end. The message the show gives off is that aliens are just like us, they're no more good or evil than we are (well people in Japan).

OVERALL: RECOMMENDED

Looking for the Twilight Zone in Anime??

Konbanwa fellow otaku. RPGHero here, reporting from... The Twilight Zone.

Just kidding haha.

I know there are many many of us out there who are fans of science fiction. This is a weird world we live in, however only weird in a bad way. But the stories of science fiction are strangely different, like the remedy. How many of you have played Chrono Cross?

and liked the feeling of being a teenager who traveled to his own parallel universe and fixed the distortion to boot?

Well we all like our share of science fiction... Just think about all of the science fiction based titles out there.

There's "Full Metal Alchemist"

Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood is an awesome series and there are many elements of science fiction within. In the new Brotherhood series they are still dealing with alchemy and a philosopher's stone that can do any alchemy. However all of the Humunculi come from an entity that decided it wanted to become a perfect existence. Definitely sci-fi masterpiece worthy.

Then "Chobits"

One big thing about the future is the possibility of humanoid robots that will begin to have emotions. This is the theme of chobits!

If you like Chobits then you'll like "Time of Eve"

Time of Eve is like Chobits but the emotional intelligence needed to watch and comprehend the plot is alittle bit higher. For older viewers only because prejudice is more of a theme mixed in with the humanoid robot theory.

If you haven't watched "Akira" you should either watch it now or stop being a serious anime fan

Akira is a sci fi movie with different themes, basically ESP and a futuristic setting. This is definitely for older audiences because of the graphic and darker quality of the plot. But it is an anime masterpiece and is acclaimed by the industry and by otaku at large!

Two words "Cowboy Bebop"

If Akira is a masterpiece than Cowboy Bebop is in the same league if not higher! Sci fi? Yes, Futuristic. Want to visit Mars and see the skyline at night? Look no further. This show is one for everyone's personal collection. Definitely buy it because every show involves themes that every educated otaku can take to heart!

Other titles you must check out are "Ghost in a Shell", "Paprika", "Code Geass", "Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, and "Final Fantasy Spirits Within", etc.

Welcome to
The Otaku Reviewers

This blog, "The Otaku Reviewers", was started in February of 2010 on this very same platform, Blogger. At first, it was a venture into the informational and informal world of comics, anime, video games, and Japanese culture. In other words, just a random blog.

Over time, the founder of the blog credited with the pseudonym "RPGhero" was joined by two fellow bloggers and friends with the names "Chansu" and "Deretsun". Together the three bloggers looked up interesting Japanese culture facts, recommended new anime, talked about their own "otaku" interests, and traveled across the United States to various anime conventions.

There have been off periods when the blog ceased production of content and there have been times when there would be dozens of blog posts per week. The schedule varies depending on the lives of the people behind the alias'. However the pattern is that we always get back into the game with even newer information about Japanese culture, anime, video games, and other nerdy hobbies.

The motto of our blog is:
"A cure for your apathy and an inspiration for your dreams. ...Applies to Otaku, anime fans, J-pop junkies, and the like"

The purpose is to blog about cool stuff related solely to anime and otaku stuff. There's no other reason we're doing this.

If you like our blog, please support us in however small a way that you would like. We appreciate our readers!
