Bleach is POPPIN!!!

Hey there! RPGHero here with an anime in review post!

This is all about:
Bleach

The news is that it's getting kinda crazy and whatnot with the final events taking place in this VERY successful anime.

For all you who don't know Bleach is about a freshman or sophomore in high school (depending on if you're talking Japan or America, younger in Japan). He can see ghosts! He uses his talent to help ghosts find comfort. Until he finds out that there are very strong negative ghosts called Hollows! A soul reaper, Rukia, gives him her powers in a last ditch effort to save his life. And he finds that his new powers are really something that he's had all along! Especially since he's super strong as a soul reaper!

Why is Gin embracing Rangiku in Opening 5? (57 seconds into the video)

Ichigo is training to beat Aizen (that powerful wierdo) and we are finally getting to see why in like many openings Rangiku is bloody and damaged... And why Gin is always embracing her like they had a relationship! I won't spoil this one for those that haven't caught up!

"Please smile" he says O.o

"What you mean me? I'm not a powerful wierdo."

But if Aizen did what I think he did to Rangiku. Someone's gotta kick his small rear end. And Ichigo is just the man, I mean boy!

Don't you just want to be Ichigo's best friend?? After watching this ending?

But really that ending really got fangirls in a mood to make youtube videos!
Click here if you like that

But really I want to be his friend too! Stay tuned friends Bleach is heading for the finale! I think...

Goku and Luffy: Two Peas in a Pod

Goku and Luffy are very similar, not in appearance... but in mind and soul.

Whenever people try to figure out their personality they think they're both either ESFP or ENFP, remember my last post?

That's interesting. The only unsure part is the Sensate or Intuition of these characters. Do they rush into extremely dangerous situations hoping to get through on Intuition alone or by taking everything one move/fight at a time (for Sensate types)?

Personally I'd like to rely on my intution, I don't care about taking everything one move or step at a time. I'd rather know everything will either be A OK or know it's not. That framing also helps us think about why people don't know what Goky or Luffy's certain personality type is. Both characters obviously see alot of pain and take alot of pain, so it's difficult to tell.

Well one thing's certain, Eiichiro Oda (One Piece creator) was and is close to Akira Toriyama (Dragonball creator) and he even told Toriyama that he based Luffy off of Goku's resiliance.

Youtube Increases Anime DVD sales! Pirating decreases...

A study by a Japanese economics professor found that viewing Youtube videos of a anime increases the sales of that anime in stores. There is a link between views of that favorite opening and the sales of that anime. Just look at One Piece. One Piece videos frequently get close to or reach over a million views and the sales are equally high.

1,391,437 views of the current One Piece opening on youtube. That beats alot of your favorite viral videos by the way.

But he also found that file sharing and file downloading decreases the sales of anime DVDs in stores. And there is a negative link between pirating anime and sales. Also many people pirate One Piece, so the makers of ONE PIECE could be making much more.

Otaku Helping Others: Character Personality Types...An Intro

This is Otaku Helping Others part Eight. It's for hardcore otaku and possibly people who are bored.

There once was a European psychologist named Carl Jung. He created these personality types. Later other psycholgists took his personality types and found a way to creat 16 different types of personalities. More or less any of us falls into one (or maybe two closely related) personality types.

Click here for an accurate personality type test! - But it's longer
Click here for another accurate test!
Click here for a fast personality test! - But it might not be accurate

If you take your personality test in all three or even find more tests and they all kinda get different results, the best way to resolve it is to choose the one that you like the most. The one that gives you the most freedom as a person.

There's a website called www.personalitycafe.com where Otaku who claim to be expert (or just very good) typlogists try to find the type of various anime characters. Why don't we see what they think? (and other forums on the net)

Sawada Tsunayoshi
(Katekyoushi Hitman Reborn!) Sawada Tsunayoshi or Tsuna for short is both an INFP and an INFJ according to one poster.

Normal Tsuna is an INFP, timid, rather be alone, carefree and kinda goofy but he really cares about others. Like me... ^^

Tsuna in Hyper Dying Will Mode is an INFJ, only the J changed meaning that tsuna isn't goofy anymore and will stop at nothing to get things done.

(Gundam 00) Setsuna F. Seiei is said to be an INTJ. An introverted person who relies heavily on intuition. Dominated by a world of thoughts and his feelings are a mere product of his thoughts. The J is also in his type for the same reason as Hyper Dying will Tsuna.

(Cowboy Bebop) Spike Spiegel is reported to be an ISTP. He's cool, calm, and about a strategy. The calm carefree aspect is the P. He's a Sensate person, doing extremely well in fights relying not on intuition as much as his opponents movement.

Much has been said about Goku (DragonballZ). The reports are mixed between ESFP and ENFP. That's an obvious mix. He relies on both intuition and the opponents movements to fight and in his relationships. He's obviously an extravert, however some think he might like his alone time. And Feeling care and emotion for others is always in everyone's report. Oh and being a carefree P. I would argue that he's unconsciously J for Judging as he will stop at NOTHING to win, a characteristic of the J types. But then he always wants mercy for some of his opponents so lets leave the P.

Bulma (DragonballZ) one of Goku's friends is reported as an ENTP. Two different forums agreed on this actually. She's extraverted and likes to talk. She relies on her intuition especially when she doesn't want to be on Planet Namek in the Frieza Saga. And she's pretty rational mixed with carefree.

Faye Valentine (Cowboy Bebop) is said to be either ENFP or INFP. Wait ENFP? Or INFP? Wasn't that Tsuna's? I guess that's why they say she's extraverted. She has no problem dealing with people so I would say she's definitely an ENFP.

That brings me to a point. These are personalities, not if you're positive or negative. Faye can be a pain to Spike and Jet through her attitude.

Ok! Last one guys! Ichigo Kurosaki! (Bleach)
People are deciding well have decided on two very different personality types. One is ENFJ and the other is ISFP. Well if you want to continue this as a hobby to find out more about yourself. What you'll have to do is choose which one you think he is!

I think he's an ISFP. A fairly private person who likes to be immersed in the world (oxymoron). He feels for his friends and all of Karakura town, reacting to stuff instead of being proactive, P.

If you want to see what people have reported, just go to Google.com and search the characters name and "MBTI". There are many internet forums dedicated to this sort of stuff. Maybe you might even characterize them. For me it helps me understand the whole MBTI better to have illustrations. Oh and another thing. People can be even more than their ideal personality. An anime character is limited to his or her story.

つたえない きもち![Tsutaenai Kimochi]! Februrary marks the Season of Unconveyable Feelings! {RSP}

Hey guys! It's finally February! Shortest month of the year, one of the coldest, and home to Valentine's Day! In America everyone knows about Valentine's Day... you give out cards and chocolates, flowers to a special loved one, maybe a fun little date and dinner and whatnot. It goes without saying that Valentine's day is well celebrated here in the States.

But Japan is no different, if not even more passionate, about Valentine's day! The Japanese call February 14th 「バレンタインデー」, the katakanization of Valentine's day. They treat the day with equal regard, as it is a social holiday, not too far from Christmas, and allows you to show love for... those you love.

In Japan there's a custom for only girls to give gifts on Valentine's day, and for guys to repay the debt on "White Day," which is Marth 14th. You might be starting to think, "Hey, why so serious? There are specific days when one sex gives the other gifts?" Yes. Because in Japan there is a "chocolate hierarchy."

The Two Types of Chocolate

There are two main types of chocolate given out on Valentine's Day in in Japan. Girls give what's called "ぎりちょこ" [giri choco] or obligatory chocolate, to people that they know generally: friends, coworkers, family, etc, but don't have strong romantic feelings for. This is to still show friendship during Valentine's day (and also a all about the Japanese economy, marketing goods, etc). It's all about being civil and friendly, even if you don't like them "in that way."

The other type of chocolate, "ほんめいちょこ," [honmei choco] means "true feelings chocolate." This is the chocolate (usually expensive) that girls reserve for the ones they like/love/going out with. Girls usually put a lot of effort into 「ほんめいちょこ」, even to the extent of melting down high-grade chocolate and baking it into cute heart shapes, making intricate carved lettering, etc. 「ほんめいちょこ」 is a show of love to people already dating, but is a confession of love if given to someone you aren't dating. Girls consider accepted 「ほんめいちょこ」 on 「バレンタインデー」to be the start of a relationship! 女の子たち がんばって!

Other types of chocolate given on Valentine's day:
"ちょうぎりちょこ[chou-giri choco]" - lit. "super obligatory chocolate" is chocolate given to really unfamiliar acquaintances, people you barely know, or people who just aren't popular. The name comes from how cheap the chocolate really is (think 99 cent store). I personally think this is a horrible thing to give someone! Just don't give them anything!!

"友ちょこ[tomo-choco]" - lit. "friend chocolate" is chocolate the girls give to each other. I suppose it has a special meaning when BFFFLs (best female friends for life) decide to give each other chocolate. I wonder if they give each other stuff for White Day as well...? I know guys sure don't.

"ないちょこ[nai choco]" - lit. "no chocolate" is ... nothing. I find this pretty sad. This is when you're so unpopular that no one you know gives you chocolate. But cheer up! It gives you pimples anyway.

Now! Onto the purpose of this Random Stuff Post. "Tsutaenai kimochi" literally means "unconveyable feelings." Now, this topic isn't fully Japanese-centered, but it's focused on a lot in romance anime and J-drama.

In Japan, love isn't something that you test out, that you fabricate just to hook up, or that you find inconvenient when it doesn't suit you. Love in Japan is a feeling they can never fully put into words, that always boils up and comes out wrong. Which is what causes many interesting situations in anime. Everything from complex heart-wrenching romance to manzai-style humorous relationships stem from feelings that are difficult to put into words. Let's examine some anime then, shall we?

Lovely complex: Koizumi and Otani's hilarious relationship is a great example. They start off wanting significant others that suit their, well, stature, but eventually Koizumi falls for Otani, even though he's almost 2 heads shorter than her! Her feelings are hard to convey, in this case it's because of their physical difference and the way their arguments always turn out sounding like a manzai routine!

[And like that, the lols ensue! Trust me, it's all because they're just shy ^-^]

Bokura ga Ita: On a much more serious note, Bokura ga Ita is about a high school romance filled with mystery. Nana falls in love with the popular boy Yano, but before she knows it they're actually in a relationship! Everything is going as planned, but wait... Yano has some skeletons in his closet. In this case, Yano (the guy!) has trouble conveying his feelings because of his past and the influence of other people. And Nana's feeling are clouded when she questions Yano's devotion to her...

Kimi ni Todoke: At times funny, other times frustrating (Geez, Kazehaya!), but always endearing, Kimi ni Todoke is about Sawako-chan's break from her social shell into a bright and happy world of friendships, involvement, helping others, and love. Kimi ni Todoke epitomizes the concept of "tsutaenai kimochi." Kazehaya and Sawako both like each other, but Kazehaya doesn't want to weigh Sawako down with his feelings and Sawako is clueless when it comes to guys! Kimi ni Todoke 2nd is becoming a test of how long the two can keep going without letting each other know how they feel... unconveyable feelings are hard to watch!

I think you get the point. Wait, you have a question? "What about Toradora? Why can't all anime depict perfect relationships?" Well, here's a simple math problem for you.

+ =

[X + Y = Z? Ehhh? Where do I plug in the? Tsundere? Where do I plug that in? Ugh.]

Japanese people have plenty anxiety about relationships. It's best shown in situations like these where feelings are hard to convey. I can honestly sympathize -- I hate it when people misunderstand what I say. And many people find love to be the most important thing on Earth. So it's obvious that letting someone know your feelings would be a difficult thing.

But this Valentine's day, try to follow Japanese customs! Give your friends 「ぎりちょこ」, and maybe give that special someone some delicious 「ほんめいちょこ」! Of course, I'm referring to you girls out there ;P All you can do is pray, guys! Lol.

Well that's enough from me! Stay warm and hold your feelings tight!

Welcome to
The Otaku Reviewers

This blog, "The Otaku Reviewers", was started in February of 2010 on this very same platform, Blogger. At first, it was a venture into the informational and informal world of comics, anime, video games, and Japanese culture. In other words, just a random blog.

Over time, the founder of the blog credited with the pseudonym "RPGhero" was joined by two fellow bloggers and friends with the names "Chansu" and "Deretsun". Together the three bloggers looked up interesting Japanese culture facts, recommended new anime, talked about their own "otaku" interests, and traveled across the United States to various anime conventions.

There have been off periods when the blog ceased production of content and there have been times when there would be dozens of blog posts per week. The schedule varies depending on the lives of the people behind the alias'. However the pattern is that we always get back into the game with even newer information about Japanese culture, anime, video games, and other nerdy hobbies.

The motto of our blog is:
"A cure for your apathy and an inspiration for your dreams. ...Applies to Otaku, anime fans, J-pop junkies, and the like"

The purpose is to blog about cool stuff related solely to anime and otaku stuff. There's no other reason we're doing this.

If you like our blog, please support us in however small a way that you would like. We appreciate our readers!

Check it out on Amazon!
