Read Chansu Hiro's Story on Pocket.fm as an Audiobook!

    If you’re looking for your next binge-listen on Pocket.fm, you should definitely set your sights on Adventure Second Prime. The story follows Emery Acer, a high school senior who’s successfully transitioned from "star athlete" to "manga-obsessed introvert." Like many of us, he’s just looking for a spark to make his final year memorable. That spark arrives in the form of a "hero" club and a sudden, massive upgrade in the power department. But there’s a catch: these superhuman abilities weren't gifted by a benevolent mentor; they were handed over by someone with a dark, anti-hero agenda, forcing Emery to question whether he’s a leader, a pawn, or something in between.

The narrative structure captures that addictive, fast-paced energy found in Japanese light novels like The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, while the action sequences feel like they were ripped straight from the panels of Naruto or One Piece. It’s a "battle anime" in literary form, blending high-stakes supernatural conflict with the complicated social dynamics of high school. The core dilemma—choosing between raw power and the loyalty of new friends—provides a grounded emotional hook that keeps the superhuman antics from feeling too detached.

This is a must-read (or must-listen) for anyone who appreciates otaku-friendly themes and the specific thrill of a well-executed shounen arc. In a world where our social feeds are constantly cluttered with heavy politics and the exhausting grind of "real life," Adventure Second Prime offers the perfect escape. It’s an invitation to trade the mundane for the extraordinary and lose yourself in a world where the only thing that matters is the strength of your spirit and the bonds you forge. Give your brain a break and dive into Emery's journey—you’ve earned a little high-octane fantasy.

The Bubble Witch is the New Spring Prescription for You

Stella vs. Wilbur!

Work Your Magic!
So you've got a phone, a smartphone, and you're bored. When you're not reading our blog here at the Otaku Reviewers, there's a ton of games to play for procrastination, time wasting, and between the scenes fun. I mean, that's just only if you think its right to spend your time playing more phone games than on other fancy websites like Youtube. That and not to sound rude but you deserve a break of your very own, if you feel like the times are catching up to you and Hillary (remember election 2016) did not help you feel like a true pop culture enthusiast but like something else entirely. It's Bubble Witch to the rescue with some anime flair, intelligent-socialite cats, fairies, pimpin your places, and last but certainly not least, "Stella the Witch".
More flair for Bubble Witch Stella

What game are you playing now? 2p for SNES!
That reminds us, there's the old-school hit "Bust-a-Move" for SNES that reminisces just like the Bubble Witch series. Wildly popular, rented at high rates on Fridays, etc and etc, that was the greatness of Bust-A-Move. The one-player which could also be a two-player (or more if you bought cheat cartridges) was great, no complaints just TVs getting hot to the touch way before LED screens brought out the flatscreen. The trip back to Blockbuster was great!
Yoshi's Tetris Attack time trial, all you can play fun up to speed lvl 99!
If that's not enough to change your mind on Bubble Witch 3, you could remember Yoshi's Tetris Attack for SNES. Also a 2 player, if you liked that stuff that is. It is wildly awesome, just find somebody to play it with, right? Also you could have rented it at any Blockbuster or Hollywood Video you wanted to. The idea here, they were great games and you could get real competitive with the story and with friends.

What happens when you're alone with your smartphone and you want to get that same happy feeling? The long answer, for long lasting, abounding joy is Final Fantasy XIII but the shorter answer is definitely Bubble Witch 3 on your phone. Instant gratification is in the animation style, scene progression, and sound fx. Not to mention within the computer programming code thats helping you see them all surprise you with bubble busting, Wilbur beating fun!

Stella and Co.
The idea here...
Play "Bubble Witch 3" on Your Phone!

PokemonGo and Tomogachi!

What was the real fascination with PokemonGo?
If Pokemon was as great as it was the first time around, you would think that it would be even more popular with the children. It sure was not so, as almost all the new buzz came from Pokemon’s oldest fans. These are the kinds of people who should have joined the ranks of elite CEOs, doctors, and teachers but they were actually late millenials.
What made Pokemon so popular the first time around? Maybe it was the nostalgia and sentimental thrill that it felt to “battle Tomogachi” as those people used to say when they themselves were kids. Back then everyone had a pocketed “tomogachi” finger keychain game on them. The cool thing was that even those tough bullies were so calm, and at peace when they had their “tomogachi” pet with them.
The idea was great, at least for “tomogachi”, everyone could take their mini key chain that had a seemingly living lo-fi grayscale LCD pet inside. At first they start out as a cute blob with two eyes and as time flies in class or home, it becomes older and grows into some kind of J-animal like a video game character and a 1cm by 1cm kitty. The time between these stages of growing up could be a few days or a few weeks. Such cuteness was beautiful to have for such a long time as days and weeks!
Pokemon took a few more years to burst onto the scene. It was totally cool, to battle these hi-powered animals, catch them, and train them for more good times. With an anime and a game it was totally unstoppable. The trading card game was more popular even, than both the anime and the game.

These days, that app and you are the trading card and the popular kings and queens of royalty. Everyone has the app like there’s a bulbasaur in everyone’s bedroom now. You can play it walking or sitting on a train or bus. Then you battle other PokemonGo appers you come across whenever you come across them.

Customizing the trainer’s a plus, so you don’t have to go with just Red or Blue. You can change wardrobes and make your trainer a unique individual. The gyms are when you get close to large, popular places and the pokemon follow the same kind of terrain as on earth, forests and beaches have different pokemon!

PokemonGO hits NYC My-Sweet-Home!

PokemonGO is the summer's new emerging fad among kids and older kids/twenty-somethings. They're all walking around town trying to catch the Pikachu of their dreams. If it were that simple, we would have had something like PokemonGO for everything we do, right? Like food and google maps!

Leaving all of that aside, and how you met your teacher on the bus. There's much more about PokemonGO that fans and otaku think are pretty cool. With the game, the app installed on your smart phone, you can go anywhere your phone goes and catch some of your favorite pokemon 150 or 350. Places have been geo-cached for the app and their stats such as climate, people traffic, leisure electronics, accounts of the players are all merged for the game's interface. That means that if your phone is good enough you can interact with all of those things in the Pokemon Universe. However, be careful because if you're walking the excitement can add to the stress of traveling down the street, whatever that is for you.

The game has Pokemon battle functions there also so some willing trainers may want to fight. If you both agree to a duel, you match your Pokemon with theirs to grow their stats, if you win. The battles can happen anywhere the two players are so they're added to the game's interface capability. Even if you don't battle just playing adds to the PokemonGO system.

It kind of makes us wonder, will Pokemon come out with a DS game with better and more things to do. It would already have been geocached to myriads of millions of places and tech. So play as much PokemonGO as you want and you'll become a Pokemon master before Christmas!

NHK World TV - News and more from Japan

I think it’s safe to say that most of us want to go to Japan someday.  Anime and manga is a big thing for us, but the history and culture of the amazing country that gave us our obsessions is something we should learn before our trip. My recommendation would be NHK World TV. There’s shows about pretty much everything from Kabuki to robotics. What makes this app really cool is that it’s free AND there’s no ads. You can also watch from your home computer or laptop, so so smartphone or tablet is needed. ^,^

NHK Newsline is the main program. It broadcasts every half hour on Mondays-Fridays  which covers news from around the world as well as Japan.

Japanology Plus covers things that are uniquely Japanese or foreigners that have made Japan their home.

Core Kyoto talks about things and people that originated in Kyoto.

Journeys in Japan talks about the different cities and towns of Japan and what makes them special.

Tokyo Eye 2020 talks about the preparations for the upcoming 2020 Summer Olympics. .

For music, J-Melo is definitely the go-to program for j-pop and j-rock. It's also my favorite show~

Kawaii International is for anything and everything Kawaii.

Another Appsession...LIne Webtoon

Hello! I’m finally free from work (for today) so I figured to let everyone know I haven’t been kidnapped by ninjas. ^^;

The past month, I’ve actually been trying out a bunch of things which is also what kept me distracted and away from posting. One of which is an app called Line Webtoon. It’s got so many comics to choose from, so you’re pretty much guaranteed to find one that will capture your interest.

I didn’t want to get the app at first since I thought they only had romance comics, but boredom got the best of me. I downloaded Webtoon onto my phone and started reading a comic called Nightmare Factory by SnaiLords. It’s pretty interesting so far and there’s updates every week which is awesome. I’d share what it’s about, but I think that’s something you should read for yourselves. It’s that awesome.

The only thing I don’t like about the app is that it’s not on the Kindle Fire, but at least the website works on it. ^.^;;

Curious? Here's some recommendations:
Nightmare Factory by SnaiLords
Siren’s Lament by instantmiso
Noblesse by Jeho Son / Kwangsu Lee
UnderPrin by smbryms
Ecstacy Hearts by SilentMaru
Catharsis by Ahniki

Miitomo - My New Addiction

Last week, I tried out Miitomo. It was released by Nintendo on March 16th, but I just heard about it through Facebook around two weeks ago from my friends. I decided to see what it was just for fun. It looked harmless...
 It started off with creating my Mii. I love anything with character creations, no matter how simple or complicated it is. The differences with this Mii and the one on the 3DS is that these Miis have QR Codes so you can share your Mii with others and they have voices.
Once that was finished, I was given Miitomo coins and Game Tickets. It was pretty obvious the Miitomo coins were for shopping, but since I was still exploring, I had no idea there was a game called Miitomo Drop until I accidentally tapped one of the Drops. It was a fun little game that reminded me of Plinko from Price is Right, but instead of winning more Miitomo coins, you get candy or a special item of the Drop's Theme, like cats, food, ninjas...things like that.

After I got some nice clothes for my Mii, I started answering questions from my Mii's friends. Some are between two Miis, but most of the questions are shared with all friends. You can send your Mii to a friend's or your friends will just randomly visit you. I had one friend visit about four times in a row.
 My favorite thing on Miitomo is taking pictures with Miifoto. I think I enjoy that more than answering questions, really. There's all kinds of backgrounds and poses to choose from, so it takes time to pick the one I want at that moment and if it looks cool with my outfit. I have at least three that I switch though. You can also add stickers, fonts or frames to the Miifotos or even the Miis of your friends.

See? I love taking pictures of my Mii. This is only a pinch of what I actually have. >.>;;

In my opinion, the only downside is that there's not many questions. I've gone through all of them already. I actually finished answering all of them about two days ago, but I still go on every day for more Miifotos. I really am addicted... ^^;;

Welcome to
The Otaku Reviewers

This blog, "The Otaku Reviewers", was started in February of 2010 on this very same platform, Blogger. At first, it was a venture into the informational and informal world of comics, anime, video games, and Japanese culture. In other words, just a random blog.

Over time, the founder of the blog credited with the pseudonym "RPGhero" was joined by two fellow bloggers and friends with the names "Chansu" and "Deretsun". Together the three bloggers looked up interesting Japanese culture facts, recommended new anime, talked about their own "otaku" interests, and traveled across the United States to various anime conventions.

There have been off periods when the blog ceased production of content and there have been times when there would be dozens of blog posts per week. The schedule varies depending on the lives of the people behind the alias'. However the pattern is that we always get back into the game with even newer information about Japanese culture, anime, video games, and other nerdy hobbies.

The motto of our blog is:
"A cure for your apathy and an inspiration for your dreams. ...Applies to Otaku, anime fans, J-pop junkies, and the like"

The purpose is to blog about cool stuff related solely to anime and otaku stuff. There's no other reason we're doing this.

If you like our blog, please support us in however small a way that you would like. We appreciate our readers!

Check it out on Amazon!
